The First Amendment talks about your right to freedom of speech as a citizen of the United States, which pretty much means that you can say whatever you want whenever you want within certain boundaries. Obviously such boundaries include things such as personal threats, which is when freedom of speech gets a bit dicey and you can not say whatever you want if its harmful to another person. If these expressions are just potentially harmful, then that's not always necessarily a good enough reason to take away someone's right to speech. Violence, however, is a definite cause for extracting someone's freedom of speech. In my opinion, freedom of speech is necessary because as a citizen you should be able to express yourself and have different opinions than others around you. It makes for a diverse society and that's beneficial because that way different ideas can come together to create a much better well-rounded concept that everyone could some how relate to and agree with. When used properly, freedom of speech is a great way to express yourself and be able to share your personal opinions without any restrictions.
